Motel Messages Series
I’ve always loved the aesthetic of roadside motel signs. The kitsch, the colors, the geometry!
Recently I was thinking about all that’s going on in the world and the different ways we’re all trying to bring attention to the issues and topics we care about. My partner is non-binary and I often think about how to best celebrate them while also spreading awareness and support for queer issues. This is where the Motel Messages series began.
The series started with me just wanting to share that “I Love a Non-binary Cutie”. Around the same time, the genocide in Palestine began. Reading about the atrocities happening literally every day stoked the fire in me to make a “Free Palestine” piece. From there I decided this needed to be a series of current event issues and overall my values and affirmations because something so eye-catching as vintage motel signs, with their color and wild shapes can and should be used to communicate important topics.

So far this series seems to have a good response from folks, so I’m hoping to keep the ball rolling!
