Uppercase and They Draw

The folks at Illustrators for Hire/They Draw and Uppercase magazine have been hosting an illustration challenge for the theme The Great Outdoors. The perk of this challenge is that it’s an opportunity for your work to be featured in an issue of Uppercase and also featured in a curated gallery on They Draw. Artists can submit as many illustrations as they want and I was able to submit two!

The Yard

The Grand Canyon

I illustrated two places that make me feel alive when outside: a future lush backyard haven of my own and a view of the Grand Canyon from a trip my partner and I took in 2018.

I think about having my own outdoor space someday where I can care for plants, grow my own food and simply relax with a morning cup of coffee.

There really isn't a way to express how breath taking and vast the Grand Canyon really is. If you know, you know. Seeing those canyons in person and hiking those trails was one of the most of magical times of my life. We spent one day there and ever since I've wanted to plan a full trip to the park to hike and camp and breathe and gaze and absorb everything that landscape has to offer.

So, anyhoo, whether my pieces get selected or not I’m really happy with how this imaginary place and this real destination came together. I’ve wanted to draw both of these places for a while (especially the Grand Canyon as I want to illustrate more travel pieces) and I’m thankful for the push of this challenge to finally get them out of my head. :)
